This course is designed for beginning Windows computer users or for those who have some experience but want to expand their knowledge of the fundamentals. Course content includes Windows desktop basics, programs, creating files and folders, saving and organizing files, basic hardware review, keyboarding, basic PC security, introduction to the Internet, and creating/using email. Scheduled lab time is included.

This course is designed for those individuals who are interested in exploring IT as a possible career. Topics include: Advanced Directory Structures, Windows Control Panel, User Management, Windows Customizations, Introduction to Networking, and Security. We will also evaluate entry level IT employment options and next steps for employability.

Prerequisites: ELTC’s Beyond the Basics course or Skills Evaluation
This course is for those who have completed the Beyond the Basics course, or for those already comfortable with the content covered in those courses, and who want to become proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Students will learn the skills necessary to be successful and effective in today’s workplace. Course content includes advanced Microsoft Word 2007, advanced Microsoft Excel 2007, Microsoft 2007 PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook email 2007. Scheduled lab time is included.
Word – Documents, formatting, bullets, charts, tables, graphics: formatting images, drawing, and clip-art; customizing toolbars.
Excel &ndash includes entering and editing worksheet information, entering worksheet formulas, formatting numbers and text, creating a chart and formatting a chart.
Powerpoint — creating an electronic presentation: formatting, text options, backgrounds, themes, inserting graphics, slide transitions, templates, organizing slide shows, outlines, handouts, speaker notes, exporting slide show to other programs.
Outlook — Using the e-mail program in Microsoft Office. Covers setting up accounts, managing options in Outlook, using the calendar, contacts, “To do” lists, and organizing and searching your e-mail.

Prerequisites: Prior completion or current enrollment in ELTC’s MSO course or Skills Evaluation
This course is designed for students who have completed or are currently enrolled in Microsoft Office – The Big 4, or have equivalent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Students will learn how to produce clear and concise business communications including business letters, emails, writing for the web, PowerPoint presentations, and marketing materials. Students will walk away with tools to improve flow, grammar, and readability of content, and with formatting tricks to give documents a professional appearance.

Prerequisites: ELTC’s Beyond the Basics course or Skills Evaluation
This course is designed to fully prepare students to successfully pass the two exams that make up the A+ certification 2009 Edition: CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Application. Students will gain the hands-on skills and knowledge necessary to perform tasks such as installation, PC building, system upgrades, repair, system configuration, troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, and preventative maintenance on personal computer hardware. The A+ certification is the industry standard for employment as a computer support technician. Internships are available on a competitive basis.
