Class Format: Most classes are two hours long and scheduled twice a week. Some classes require a pre-course and post-course test. Textbooks are required for some courses; the costs vary and are not included in the registration fee. Spring & Fall courses are 16-weeks in length; Summer courses are 8-weeks.
Instructor/Tutor Training and Professional Development: The Education and Life Training Center provides free tutor/instructor literacy training workshops. The focus of the program is to recruit, train, and place volunteers as tutors in this organization and other literacy programs in the community. ELTC usually utilizes volunteer tutors to work with adult learners who need one-on-one assistance and as assistants in our ESL courses. Tutors learn about the art and concepts of adult literacy education; Colorado Department of Education guidelines; and basic lesson plan development. Training workshops are usually held three times a year. If helping adults in the areas of basic literacy, GED (high school equivalency) test preparation, math, or English as a Second Language interests you, call or email us for details.
