CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT COORDINATOR
The coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and teaching a CNA curriculum that will qualify students for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Training will be provided at ELTC, Columbine Health Care’s training facility, and other long-term care facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides instruction and supervises student training in ELTC and all medical or long-term care facilities
- Lectures to students, conducts and supervises laboratory work, and issues assignments
· Prepares and administers examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintains records of student classroom and clinical experience
- Provides for a systematic plan to evaluate the student, which may include analyses of class participation, feedback, and written tests
· At the completion or termination of a student’s training, submits a report of the total of hours of training the student received and the related skills achieved.
· Helps to prepare and submit a program budget and is responsible for requesting materials and supplies
- Participates in curriculum development, teaching schedule, and course outline
- Helps develop and revise admission, dismissal, and completion policies and forms for the program
· Accurately and punctually submits all forms and information needed for attendance accounting and grade reporting to the Medical Program Coordinator
· Helps secure clinical facilities and works with clinical facility staff members to develop and ensure a working agreement concerning facility, supply, and equipment usage
· Provides effective liaison between health care facilities and ELTC
· Orients students to clinical facility (not part of the required 16 clinical hours)
· Ensures that each student is clearly identified as a student so that staff, clients, family members and visitors recognize them as a student.
· Ensures appropriate dress code in cooperation with clinical facilities
- Provides for the safe
keeping permanent records and reports essential to the operation of the
program for at least two years, which shall include, but is not limited
to, the following:
- A skills checklist that demonstrates satisfactory performance of all required skills for each student.
- Student records such as attendance, test scores, assignment scores, etc.
- Conducts research to obtain most recent information about related topics
- Fosters a climate which promotes open communication and professional growth
- Acts as a role model to students by demonstrating and teaching professional behaviors
- May supervise LPN or other ancillary instructors who instruct the CNA students
- Helps Nursing Assistants to prepare and apply for state testing for certification as a Nursing Assistant
- Protects human and civil rights of residents in care facilities where students train
· Attends staff meetings and other meetings as required
· Performs other duties related to this position as requested by the executive director or the program coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
- Must hold an active Colorado RN license in good standing
- Have at least two years of nursing experience in caring for the elderly and/or the chronically ill of any age
- Attend a “Train the Trainer� program approved by the Board or have demonstrated competence in teaching adult learners as defined by Board policy.
- Availability to teach on weekends and evenings.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Nursing or higher degree preferred
- Understanding of adult teaching principles and techniques
- At least one year experience teaching adults
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
